Lawyers, Litigants, and Public Applaud SCs Decision to Extend Video Link Facility to Remote Areas

The legal community, litigants, and the general public have warmly welcomed the Supreme Court’s (SC) landmark decision to extend its Video Link Facility to remote areas of the country.

The move, aimed at enhancing access to justice, has been hailed as a progressive and citizen-centric step toward judicial modernization.

As part of this initiative, the Supreme Court has successfully established video link facilities at the Sindh High Court Division Bench in Sukkur and four benches of the Peshawar High Court located in Abbottabad, Mingora (Swat), Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan).

This development enables lawyers and litigants from these far-flung regions to appear before the apex court without the burden of long-distance travel.

The facility is designed to save time and resources while ensuring that geographical limitations do not obstruct the delivery of justice. Legal practitioners have praised the move as a major leap forward in making the justice system more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the people.

‘This is a historic and commendable step by the Supreme Court,’ said a senior lawyer Haseeb Khan from Swat. ‘It ensures that people from remote areas are no longer disadvantaged simply because of their location.’

The video link system aligns with the Supreme Court’s broader vision of integrating information technology into court proceedings and establishing a transparent, modern judiciary. Officials have confirmed that efforts are already underway to extend the facility to other remote regions across Pakistan.

The Supreme Court’s citizen-focused reform is seen as a pivotal step in building a more equitable and technology-driven legal system for all.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, led Supreme Court continues to take decisive steps toward building a more equitable, accessible, and technology-driven legal system for all citizens of Pakistan.
