KP Govt introducing modern technology to increase export of gemstone: Governor

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman has said that the government is introducing the use of modern technology in the gemstone sector to increase exports and increase revenue and to achieve this goal, for the first time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in in collaboration with IBL, HRD Antwerp, a world-renowned company of Belgium, has agreed to set up a Gemstone Laboratory, which will provide global recognition and certification to the province’s gemstones. He said this while presiding over a meeting of the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Gemstones and Minerals at Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Task Force Chairman Gul Asghar Khan Baghoor and other members.

Shah Farman said that for the first time in the history of the country, the sector is being transformed into an export industry. Many practical steps have been taken for the cultivation of dried fruits and quality honey and the fruits of which are beginning to be reaped. Similarly, improvement in the field of minerals and gemstones is a need of the hours. This will not only increase exports and revenues but also provide employment opportunities to the youth and stabilize the economic situation. The meeting was informed that Pakistan has the potential to export five billion worth of jewelry annually. It will have a positive impact on the country’s economy and create ample employment opportunities.
