KP Governor Demands United Stand as NAB Reveals Trillion-Rupee Recoveries

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi issued a powerful call for a united national front against corruption, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) revealed it has made recoveries exceeding Rs9 trillion nationwide. The statements were made at a high-profile seminar on Tuesday marking International Anti-Corruption Day.

The event, hosted by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Governor House, was organized under the theme ‘Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.’ It brought together government officials, educators, students, and representatives from civil society to address the pervasive issue of graft.

In his keynote address, Governor Kundi stressed the urgent need for stringent punishment and strict accountability for individuals involved in corrupt practices. He characterized corruption as not merely a financial crime but a profound moral failure that critically obstructs the nation’s social and economic advancement.

Placing a strong emphasis on the country’s younger generation, the governor urged them to become vanguards against dishonesty. He called on them to champion integrity in education and transparency in governance, expressing his conviction that a unified national resolve could transform Pakistan into a society free from malfeasance.

Director General NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Farman Ullah, remarked that the day serves as a poignant reminder of Pakistan’s commitment to the rule of law. He noted that illicit practices erode public trust, violate citizens’ rights, and weaken the moral fabric of society.

Detailing the bureau’s recent successes, the DG announced that NAB KP recovered over Rs4.6 billion during 2025 and pursued a mega-corruption case involving Rs37 billion, leading to the apprehension of those responsible. Citing a recent International Monetary Fund report, he highlighted that NAB had recovered over Rs5.3 trillion during 2023-24, contributing to the total nationwide recovery figure surpassing Rs9 trillion.

DG Farman Ullah reaffirmed the bureau’s dedication to impartial accountability, underscoring that the fight against financial crimes requires collective effort and moral courage. He also shared that NAB has established over 5,000 Character Building Societies in educational institutions to instill ethical values among the youth.

The seminar also included speeches from senior officials and civil society members, with students delivering impassioned addresses on their commitment to a corruption-free future. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates and cash prizes to meritorious students and the presentation of shields to distinguished guests.
