KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Saturday that KMC is establishing an endowment fund of Rs10 crore for global warming and green energy.

“We will continue to promote clean and green energy in the entire city, as PPP has also in its manifesto made this promise to provide free electricity to citizens. We will also shift KMC building to solar system,” he said while talking to media representatives after inaugurating a 100KW Solar Plant at Kidney Hill Park on Saturday.

Mr Wahab said that the solar plant would provide electricity to Kidney Hill, adding such type of solar plants would also be installed in other parks of the city. “A technical review is underway to run the streetlights from the solar plant. The solar plant will save KMC in paying electricity bills and we will sell this electricity to K Electric,” he said.

He said that Pakistan State Oil had given Rs40 crore to the KMC out of Rs50 crore, adding the rest would also be received soon. Wahab said that KMC had the largest land in Karachi, but due to lack of work, this land had come under China Cutting in the past.

He said that we want to use these assets wisely for clean and green energy, He said that we have not asked for money to anyone, KMC budget has been invested here, we will make more such projects, those who want to help can also become our part, neighboring countries have installed solar panels on the drains. Yes, we have more than 500 canals we can work on it, 106 road poles are there, playgrounds, 46 parks are with KMC which we want to switch to solar, we have flyovers and bridges, we have created this model, let us join hands with KMC, for climate change and global warming. He said that there is a 72 km water line coming from Kenjhar Lake to Karachi, 650 MW of electricity is needed for this line, think that if all this can be done, the people of Karachi will be able to get cheap electricity. Our manifesto also said to provide free electricity and we want to provide free electricity, he said that the party had chosen Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as the Prime Minister, Bilawal Bhutto supported the party with more votes than him and declared unconditional support, having understanding does not mean that we are accepting the other party, we are not going to the government, we have also criticized and the issues are discussed.
