Students from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir face discrimination in getting hostel accommodation at colleges and universities across India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the disturbing discrimination issue has been brought to limelight by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) .
The JKSA wrote a letter to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, asking him to address the ongoing hostel accommodation crisis faced by Kashmiri students inside India. The student organization cited the example of Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi where according to the letter hundreds of students are struggling to secure on-campus accommodation due to bias.
The association’s Convenor, Nasir Khuehami, highlighted that the hostel, constructed in 2012 to house 700 Kashmiri students, is currently occupied mostly by students from other states.
This has forced many Kashmiri students to seek expensive and unsafe private accommodations, posing a significant safety concern, especially for female students. Khuehami emphasized that this situation is a betrayal of the original purpose of the hostel project.
