In a collaborative operation, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) and District Central Police apprehended three suspects involved in an extortion racket in the Ayub Goth area of Karachi District Central.
The individuals, identified as Waqar, Muhammad Aslam alias Murghi, and Salman alias Nana, were taken into custody along with a cache of weapons and ammunition.
According to the press release issued by Sindh Rangers here today, the arrested individuals are associates of the gang leader Abdul Samad alias Faizan and are implicated in the illegal trade of betel nuts and paan. They were allegedly involved in making extortion calls to businesspersons using foreign numbers and resorted to gunfire when demands were unmet.
During interrogation, suspect Waqar revealed his collaboration with Abdul Samad in 2022 in the illegal sale of gutka/mawa in the New Karachi area, for which he received a daily wage. He further disclosed a task he received in October 2024 from Abdul Samad via an international WhatsApp number to gather information on a person named Kamran Bengali.
Suspect Aslam, alias Murghi, admitted to his involvement in the illegal smuggling of beter nuts (chhalia) across Karachi and Sindh. He facilitated threatening calls through Abdul Samad’s right-hand man, Sohail, and collected extortion money.
Suspect Salman, alias Nana, has a history of street crimes and has been previously jailed multiple times on various charges.
The apprehended suspects, along with the seized weapons and ammunition, have been handed over to the District Central Police for further legal proceedings.
