The Commissioner Karachi Office has released its 20th Ramadan price control report, highlighting enforcement measures against profiteering and non-compliance with government-set prices.
According to the report, coordinated efforts by district officials and appointed special magistrates across the city led to 181 profiteers being penalized on the 20th of Ramadan. Fines amounting to Rs. 1.327 million were imposed, and two individuals were arrested during the day’s operations.
Officials inspected 1,482 shops and oversaw sales at 326 locations where goods were sold at official rates. Special magistrates additionally imposed Rs. 178,000 in penalties on profiteers.
The report noted that citizens acknowledged and appreciated the administration’s efforts to provide relief by ensuring compliance with official price lists during Ramadan.
Cumulatively, over the past 20 days, actions were taken against 3,586 profiteers. A total of Rs. 39.064 million in fines was imposed, 149 individuals were arrested, and 129 shops were sealed.
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi appreciated the efforts of deputy commissioners and instructed them to continue enforcing price controls. He directed officials to prominently display official price lists and to personally supervise the sale of essential items at government rates.
Area-wise enforcement on the 20th Ramadan resulted in fines of Rs. 215,000 in District South, Rs. 100,000 in East, Rs. 54,000 in West, Rs. 193,000 in Central, Rs. 80,000 in Malir, Rs. 289,000 in Korangi, and Rs. 10,000 in Keamari.
