Justice Munib Akhtar, the next senior-most Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, took oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan in a simple and dignified ceremony held here at the Supreme Court on Friday.
The oath was administered by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail. Justice Munib Akhtar will serve as acting Chief Justice from May 30 to June 6, 2025.
The ceremony was attended by fellow Judges of the Supreme Court, senior members of the legal fraternity, and officers of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan.
Registrar Supreme Court, Muhammad Salim Khan, conducted the proceedings. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court were also present on the occasion.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, departed for Saudi Arabia on Friday morning to perform Hajj. He is scheduled to return to Pakistan on June 10, 2025, and will resume his duties thereafter.
In the meantime, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, is also currently out of the country on an international visit. Justice Munib Akhtar currently ranks third in the seniority list of Supreme Court judges.
