In response to the central call of JUI, a protest sit-in was held at the Doolah Darya Khan Bridge in Thatta against the construction of six canals on the Indus River. JUI workers blocked a portion of the bridge and chanted slogans, declaring the construction of canals as an infringement on Sindh’s water rights.

According to details, JUI Thatta had announced the protest sit-in against the construction of canals. The protest was led by JUI Thatta District President Abdul Wahab Baloch and Maulvi Saleem Atif, with hundreds of workers from the Thatta and Sujawal districts participating.

Due to the protest sit-in, traffic heading to Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mithi, and Karachi was diverted to alternative routes. Workers from various political, social, and nationalist organizations also joined the protest.

During the sit-in, slogans such as “Attack on Sindh River Unacceptable” and “Canals Unacceptable” were chanted. The protesters stated that the construction of canals would render Sindh barren and poses a threat of settling Punjab’s deserts.

In their speeches, JUI leaders stated that the Indus River is the cradle of civilizations and demanded the immediate withdrawal of this project. They warned that if the project is not withdrawn, the federal and Punjab governments will be held responsible for the consequences.
