JCP meets on April 8 to elevate two LHC judges to SC

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Yahya Afridi, will meet here on April 8 to elevate two new judges to the Supreme Court (SC) from among the five nominations received from the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The agenda of the JCP meeting also includes expunction of the observations/remarks contained in the minutes of meeting of the JCP held on July 2, 2024 about the LHC’s senior puisne judge, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan.

Justice Shujaat Ali Khan had requested the JCP to expunge the observations/remarks made against him in the July 2, 2024 meeting of the JCP.

There are 22 permanent judges currently working in the Supreme Court against the sanctioned strength of 34 judges including the CJP. The CJP Justice Yahya Afridi is also the Chairman of the JCP.
