After a 14-year delay, the first phase of Islamabad”s model jail is expected to be finished by the end of this year. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, accompanied by Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry, visited the construction site in Sector H-16, Islamabad, and set the deadline.

Two barracks have already been built, and the checkposts and central watchtower are near completion. Naqvi inspected various sections of the prison and assessed the construction advancement. He directed round-the-clock work to meet the year-end target for the first phase, which will house 1,500 inmates. He also ordered the construction of two additional barracks within 90 days.

The Interior Minister stressed the importance of finishing the 34-bed hospital and main kitchen promptly. He also requested a staff deployment strategy from the DIG Islamabad Police. Officials revealed the project began in 2011 but faced years of stagnation. The Federal Interior Secretary, DIG Islamabad Police, ADCG, CDA officials, contractors, and consultants also attended the site visit.
