Islamabad and Dhaka are poised to solidify their relationship through a proposed ‘sister city’ partnership. Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, met with Bangladeshi High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan at CDA Headquarters on Monday to discuss the initiative.

CDA Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Member Engineering Syed Nifasat Raza, and other senior officials also attended the meeting. Randhawa underscored the strong ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh and advocated for increased bilateral cooperation.

Khan commended Islamabad’s urban development and environmental programs under Randhawa’s leadership. Discussions centered on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the sister city relationship between Islamabad and Dhaka.

Randhawa pledged the CDA’s full support for the partnership and reaffirmed Pakistan’s esteem for Bangladesh. He outlined Islamabad’s ongoing development projects, including road infrastructure upgrades, improved monsoon drainage, and an extensive tree planting drive.

He emphasized the significant potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations. The Bangladeshi envoy reiterated his nation’s commitment to stronger bilateral ties and expressed interest in participating in Islamabad’s tree planting program. The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to enhancing cooperation and deepening the bond between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
