Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah met with Iraq’s Consul General Dr. Mehr Mujahid Jijian to discuss the reopening of the Iraqi Consulate in Karachi after 20 years and future cooperation between the two governments.

Congratulating the consul general on his appointment, the chief minister welcomed him and acknowledged the significance of restoring the consulate’s operations. He also extended congratulations on the resumption of visa and other services for the people of Sindh.

Dr. Jijian emphasized that the reopening of the consulate will benefit citizens, particularly religious pilgrims. He highlighted that Iraq was among the first countries to establish a consulate in Pakistan after its independence.

Assuring full support, the chief minister reaffirmed that the Sindh government would assist in ensuring smooth consular operations. He reiterated Pakistan’s longstanding relations with Iraq and expressed hope for strengthening mutual ties.

The Iraqi consul general shared that flights between Karachi and Najaf are operational, facilitating travel for pilgrims. During the meeting, both leaders exchanged Ramadan greetings, underscoring the spirit of goodwill and cooperation.
