Indus River develops breach at Taunsa Barrage

KOT ADDU:Indus River eroding embankment downstream of Taunsa Barrage, developing a breach at RD-30, according to a report on Wednesday. The river eroding spur in Taunsa downstream after an upsurge in water level causing a breach at RD-30. The breach could submerge low-lying settlements along the riverbank.

Irrigation department staff and administration officials have reached to the place of breach in the spur. Local assistant commissioner has ordered people to evacuate from the area. The water level is going down in Ravi River. “The water level has receded by 4,160 cusecs in Ravi,” flood forecasting division said. The water flow has dropped to 28,295 cusecs in Ravi, FFD said. “The water gradually receding to routine level in the river,” according to the FFD. Moreover, Sutlej River has been in low flood with 71,907 cusecs inflow and 63,090 cusecs outflow at Sulemanki Headworks. The river’s outflow at Ganda Singh Wala recorded 60,340 cusecs, while the water level has reached to 30.19 feet at the point.
