Islamabad District and Sessions Court acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan of the charges in two cases registered at the Shahzad Town police station over the May 9 violent incidents.
The verdict was delivered by Judicial Magistrate Umar Shabbir, who ruled in favour of acquittal due to insufficient evidence.
The cases, which drew considerable public and media attention, were part of a series of legal challenges faced by the PTI founder. However, the prosecution failed to present substantial evidence, leading to the court’s decision to acquit Khan.
The decision, which had been reserved by the magistrate following the pleas for acquittal, underscores the judiciary’s role in upholding justice based on the merit of the evidence presented.
On May 20, local courts in Islamabad acquitted Imran Khan and other PTI leaders in two cases filed in the Kohsar and Karachi Company police stations for violation of Section 144 as well as holding the party’s ‘Azadi March’ on Islamabad.
