ISLAMABAD:Inspector General of Police Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan on Tuesday apologised to the Islamabad High Court in the contempt of court case for arresting former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Shireen Mazari despite court order. Islamabad High Court conducted hearing of the contempt of court case against IG Islamabad for arresting Dr Shireen Mazari despite court order. IG Islamabad Akbar Nasir Khan submitted the reply in Islamabad High Court.
In his reply, the IG Islamabad said that he was ashamed of what happened and apologised for violation of the court order. To avoid such situation in future, office order had been issued. Police officers had been ordered to ensure full implementation of court orders, he said. IG Nasir Khan said sub-inspector Haider Ali, constables Sohail, Faisal and Waqas were involved in arresting Dr Mazari. Lady Constable Sundus and Marvi were also involved in arrest of the former PTI leader. He said the police did not know about the court order before arrest of Dr Mazari.
The IG said disciplinary action had been initiated and the relevant officials had been served show-cause notices. In response, IG Islamabad also said that officers from Kohsar Police Station along with Rawalpindi Police had visited Dr Mazari’s house to arrest her. Advocate Iman Mazari did not inform the police about the court order to stop them from arresting her mother.
