The Sindh Human Rights Department is intervening in the case of a 20-year-old married woman, Shanti, allegedly brutally assaulted and currently fighting for her life at the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma Center in Karachi. On the direction of Mr. Rajvir Singh Sodhi, Advisor to the Chief Minister for Human Rights, Director Human Rights Agha Fakhar Hussain visited the trauma center to assess the situation and offer support to the victim’s family.

Shanti is reportedly on a ventilator with severe internal injuries following the alleged attack by her husband. Hussain spoke with the medical superintendent, attending physicians, medico-legal officer, and Shanti’s family, who expressed satisfaction with the care being provided.

The Human Rights Department is seeking legal counsel to initiate legal action under the Sindh Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2013, and the Pakistan Penal Code. Medical and legal records are being reviewed, and the department is working with law enforcement agencies to ensure the case proceeds legally. Hussain reiterated the department’s commitment to ensuring justice in this grave incident. A detailed report has been submitted to the provincial advisor for human rights for further action.
