A potent weather system is poised to drench Pakistan with heavy to very heavy precipitation over the next 24 hours, raising concerns about urban flooding and landslides. Islamabad anticipates intermittent heavy downpours and thunderstorms, PID reported today.

Punjab is braced for widespread showers and thunderstorms. Potohar and northeastern regions, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Hafizabad, and Mandi Bahauddin, are particularly vulnerable to heavy rainfall, increasing the likelihood of urban flooding. Central and southern areas like Multan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar, and Sahiwal will experience scattered storms. Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan may see isolated light precipitation.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), northern and upper districts, such as Swat, Buner, Shangla, Dir, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, and Malakand, anticipate heavy downpours, with a risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions. The Peshawar valley, encompassing Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, and Swabi, will see scattered storms. Southern KP districts like D.I. Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Kohat may experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with occasional heavy bursts.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) districts, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber, anticipate substantial rainfall and thunderstorms, raising concerns about landslides and flash floods, particularly in hilly areas. Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) anticipates isolated showers in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Ghizer, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, and Shigar, which could trigger debris flows, landslides, or localized flooding.

Sindh”s coastal areas, including Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, and Tharparkar, will experience intermittent showers and thunderstorms. Central and upper Sindh, including Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Dadu, Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, and Kashmore, are likely to see isolated to scattered moderate to heavy rainfall under warm and humid conditions.

Balochistan”s eastern, southeastern, and coastal areas, such as Lasbela, Khuzdar, Awaran, Kalat, Gwadar, Turbat, and Panjgur, anticipate scattered showers and thunderstorms. Northern and central Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Loralai, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Dera Bugti, and Kohlu, will experience isolated light precipitation.
