Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan engaged in a significant meeting with the Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) to address the pressing challenges within the dairy sector and explore viable solutions.
Khan underscored that Pakistan, a leading milk producer with over 70 million tons annually, faces the urgent need for advancements in dairy farming and milk processing to elevate quality and reduce costs.
A focal point of the dialogue was the 18 General Sales Tax (GST) on packaged milk, which has escalated prices impacting both producers and consumers. The PDA urged the government to reevaluate this tax, advocating for its reduction to stabilize milk prices and support the industry.
Khan highlighted the necessity of increased investment in the dairy sector for achieving self-sufficiency in food production. He assured the PDA that the government remains committed to resolving the industry’s challenges through ongoing stakeholder engagement.
