Pakistan’s growing circular debt in the energy sector has become a serious issue that is continuously consuming national resources. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing the launch of a final plan to resolve this issue, highlighted the gravity of the situation. He termed this plan a significant step towards resolving the long-standing debt problem.
The State Bank Governor played a key role in the formulation of this plan. Successful negotiations with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) were key to the development of this strategy. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) also played an important role in the debt resolution plan. The Minister for Power led the special task force responsible for formulating this plan.
