Govt to ensure power supply in Sindh during cyclone Biparjoy: Khurram Dastagir

Islamabad:Minister for Energy, Engineer Khurram Dastagir has said that on the directives of Prime Minister, efforts are being made to ensure power supply in Sindh, especially in Karachi and Hyderabad regions during Cyclone Biparjoy.

Addressing a news conference here in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said we have mobilized five distribution companies to support HESCO and KESC to avoid breakdown, while Ministry of Petroleum has diverted gas supply to Karachi and Hyderabad.

The Minister said speedy winds and rain have disrupted RLNG shipping in Karachi, causing temporary decline in RLNG-based electricity generation and temporary increase in load-shedding. He said the teams from Punjab have been sent to coastal areas in advance to support the power staff there. He said due to speedy winds and rain, electricity transmission plants will be stopped for time being. Khurram Dastgir said the incumbent government has added five-thousand-megawatt electricity to national grid during last year.
