Govt Sets Sights on Ensuring Wheat Supply Amid Market Concerns

Islamabad: Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema has announced the federal government's commitment to meeting the wheat needs of the provinces using stocks from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). He made this declaration while leading a meeting focused on evaluating the current wheat supply and demand across the provinces.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister emphasized that the government's top priority is to safeguard the interests of both the public and farmers while ensuring the continuous availability of wheat throughout the country. He highlighted that decisions regarding wheat management will be based on domestic production, market conditions, and the welfare of local farmers.

Cheema also instructed relevant authorities to maintain strict vigilance against hoarding and market manipulation to ensure sufficient wheat availability in the market before the upcoming sowing season. The meeting further reviewed the availability of petroleum products and addressed concerns about fuel hoarding by certain oil marketing companies.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to energy security, Cheema assured that there are adequate stocks of petroleum products in Pakistan and no fuel shortage exists. He warned that the government will not permit any Oil Marketing Company or petrol pump to create an artificial shortage for profiteering.
