LAHORE: On the recommendation of the Advisory Board, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has issued a notification fixing the retail price of sugar at Rs98.82 per kilogramme.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the retail price of sugar across the country has been fixed at Rs98.82. The price of sugar will include Rs14.58 sales tax. The per kilogramme price of sugar will also contain Rs5.30 profit of the sugar mills, besides 25 paisa as distributors’ margin.
According to the notification, the transport cost of Rs2 per kg, the retailer’s profit of Re1 per kg will also be included in the total cost. As the price of sugar was not fixed, commodity’s rate in the market was increased by 30 percent.
Sources in the ministry said the district administration would be bound to sell sugar at official rates. On the other hand, citizens said sugar was being sold at Rs125 per kg even in big stores, while the price of sugar in the open market was Rs130 per kg.
