Islamabad: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, has reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector. Addressing the World Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day 2026 ceremony in Islamabad, he described the sector as the backbone of the national economy and a central pillar of the government's economic transformation agenda.According to Radio Pakistan, Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized the significance of Pakistan's approximately 7.14 million small and medium enterprises, which constitute the country's largest productive force. These enterprises contribute nearly 40 percent of the GDP, account for 30 percent of exports, and provide employment to more than 80 percent of the non-agricultural workforce.He further shared that the government has established a dedicated 30 billion rupees SME Development Fund. This fund is designed to support innovative and transformational initiatives aimed at enhancing enterprise competitiveness, expanding exports, and accelerating sustainable economic growth.
