Govt Advocates Strong and Independent Print Media, Says Tarar

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has affirmed the government's commitment to fostering an independent, strong, and responsible print media. He made these remarks during a meeting with the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting delved into the challenges confronting the newspaper industry, including potential reforms in the Audit Bureau of Circulation, budget allocations for news agencies, outstanding dues of media houses, and the prevalence of dummy newspapers. A consensus was reached to reform the Audit Bureau of Circulation system to enhance its effectiveness.

Minister Tarar emphasized that ongoing consultations with relevant stakeholders are crucial to addressing the newspaper industry's issues. He highlighted the importance of making the system more effective, transparent, and aligned with modern needs.

He also assured that the payment of dues to media houses and issues concerning news agencies would be dealt with expeditiously. Tarar reiterated the government's commitment to providing ample support to resolve the legitimate challenges faced by media institutions.
