Governor Punjab, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, commended the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) for its 75-year dedication to press freedom, democratic principles, and human rights at a ceremony held at Punjab House, Islamabad on Monday. The governor extolled the contributions of PFUJ’s founding members, including Abrar Ahmed, Abdul Hameed Chapra, Abdul Shakoor, Minhaj Barna, and Nisar Usmani, recognizing their tireless work in advancing these crucial values in Pakistan.

The governor underscored the significant part journalists play in bolstering democracy nationwide. He affirmed his party’s, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), unwavering backing for journalists, particularly during difficult periods.

PFUJ Secretary General Shakeel Ahmed recognized the PPP’s consistent advocacy for press freedom and the well-being of media professionals. He reiterated the PFUJ’s pledge to uphold its constitutional and democratic fight for journalists’ rights.

The event, attended by a large gathering of journalists, civil society representatives, and members of various media outlets, included a cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate the PFUJ’s landmark anniversary.
