Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has de-notified Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi upon his failure to obtain vote of confidence from Provincial Assembly at the appointed day and time.

Earlier, the Governor had asked the Chief Minister to obtain vote of confidence on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The order issued by the Governor late last night said since the Chief Minister has not obtained vote of confidence, despite lapse of another twenty-four hours, therefore he does not command confidence of the House and ceases to hold the office with immediate effect.

As per the order, the provincial cabinet also stands dissolved.

However, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has been asked to continue to hold the office until his successor assumes the office of the Chief Minister.

Chief Secretary Punjab has been asked to take further necessary action in this regard.
