Islamabad:The government has announced plans to conduct a technical audit of all Distribution Companies (DISCOs) to evaluate issues related to power theft and system losses.

According to Radio Pakistan, this decision was made during a meeting of the committee on inefficiencies and electricity theft in DISCOs. The meeting took place in Islamabad and was co-chaired by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.

The committee agreed that the Terms of Reference for the technical audit would be finalized by next week. Ahad Cheema emphasized that the audit should include an in-depth diagnostic analysis of the underlying causes of power theft and losses. He highlighted the importance of producing credible and actionable findings to empower the government to implement targeted, evidence-based measures aimed at reducing these issues.

Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari stated that the Power Division is proactively working to mitigate theft and losses, particularly focusing on the operations of DISCOs.
