Government again extends census date until May 31

ISLAMABAD:The government on Friday again extended the census date.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the field operation will continue until May 22 while the verification process will continue until May 31.

The bureau has already written a letter to all provinces and directed the administrations to remain active. On April 15, the channel had reported that the federal government had extended the fieldwork of the digital census for another 15 days for the third time.

Now, the census will continue till April 30.

Earlier, on Monday, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) extended the census date till April 15 on the recommendation of the provincial governments.

On April 5, the bureau said that more than 90 per cent of work was completed in Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, according to official data released, Islamabad and Balochistan lagged significantly behind, with 72% and 62% of work completed so far, respectively.

The fieldwork of the census in Karachi will also be extended for the third time.

A meeting in this connection has been convened under the chair of the chief census commissioner.
