Good news for traders as Pakistan Railways inducts 30 new highspeed freight wagons

In a major development aimed at modernizing the freight transport system and facilitating the business community, Pakistan Railways has added 30 new highspeed, highcapacity freight wagons to its system.

According to a Pakistan Railways press release, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Railways, Aamir Ali Baloch, announced the induction during a ceremony held at the Lahore Cantt Railway Station on Friday. He said the wagons have been developed in response to the demands of the business sector and meet international standards.

According to the CEO, each wagon has a load capacity of 60 tons, marking a significant advancement in freight operations. He added that the railways plans to induct a total of 850 such wagons, out of which 250 have already been integrated into the system. The remaining units are expected to be added by December 31 this year.

Baloch further noted that the new wagons are entirely manufactured in Pakistan, a positive sign for the local industry. He emphasized that freight charges via rail are kept lower than road transport, enabling traders to access costeffective logistics solutions.

Project Director Ishaq Butt and other senior officials of Pakistan Railways were also present at the event. The CEO hinted that as the rail network’s capacity continues to expand, more advanced freight trains will be introduced to strengthen and streamline the country’s cargo transport infrastructure.
