Islamabad: Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani has called for renewing the pledge to build a strong and prosperous Pakistan. Addressing the Azadi Cultural Show at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad today, he stressed the need to place national interests above personal and political considerations.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Senate Chairman emphasized that history bears witness to the fact that the Pakistani nation has always faced challenges and trials with determination, courage, and unity. He reflected on Independence Day as a reminder of the historic struggle led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the Muslims of the subcontinent for the creation of Pakistan.
Yousuf Raza Gillani also acknowledged the sacrifices of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in defending and safeguarding the nation, affirming that the country stands united with its military in securing Pakistan's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
The Senate Chairman highlighted Pakistan's desire for peaceful relations with neighboring and other countries, based on mutual respect and shared interests. He pointed out that Pakistan's identity as a responsible, peace-loving, and vibrant nation has strengthened recently, noting the country's role in mediating between the United States and Iran, which contributed to global peace and stability.
He described the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement as a diplomatic and strategic victory for Pakistan, marking it as a new chapter of cooperation, trust, and collective security in the region. Gillani expressed that this agreement not only improved Pakistan's image but also aids in promoting peace and stability.
Furthermore, the Senate Chairman reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
