FWO completes construction of Jaglot-Skardu Road

The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has successfully constructed the Jaglot-Skardu Road, overcoming the once-daunting challenge of traveling through the rugged mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to a report, in 2017, the Jaglot-Skardu Road Project was entrusted to FWO. Embracing the challenge, FWO completed the project successfully with its remarkable expertise.

A foreign company had demanded 52 billion rupees for the project, but FWO completed the highway for only 31 billion rupees.

Earlier, the journey from Gilgit to Skardu used to take 12 to 13 hours, but after the construction of this highway, this time has been reduced to only 3 hours.

The Jaglot-Skardu road is a major link between the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and Skardu city. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) completed the initial track construction for this passage in 1984. The length of the road is 164 Km having a 3.66 Meter width.

The road is located in one of the most difficult terrains in the country which has intense snowfall, major threats for land sliding, and rock fall. The current upgrade of the Jaglot – Skardu road consists of increasing road width from 3.6 to 7.3 meters and reducing the sharp curves. This will in turn enhance the comfort of the ride for the travelers.

The Jaglot – Skardu Road project was upgraded by the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) with the help of Jaffer Rental’s Komatsu heavy machinery and power generation equipment.
