Pakistan is bracing for another potential flood in the Sutlej River following a new alert from India warning of substantial upstream water flow. The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed receiving notification from the Indian High Commission regarding anticipated high flood levels at Harike and Ferozepur.

An official warning was disseminated by the ministry after the 8 a.m. alert on Friday. This marks the third such cautionary advisory from India this month concerning possible flooding in the Sutlej. Notably, these communications have been relayed through the Indian High Commission in Islamabad rather than the formal channels stipulated by the Indus Waters Treaty, which designates the Indus Water Commission for such exchanges.

India’s initial communication to Pakistan about the flood situation came on September 3, followed by another high flood warning for two points along the Sutlej on Thursday. During a weekly press conference, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan acknowledged receiving information from India through diplomatic avenues, but indicated that complete details were not furnished.
