Fowzia returns from US, says Aafia’s life is in danger

KARACHI:,,, Aafia Movement leader, Epilepsy Foundation Pakistan President and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui said on Thursday that the life of Dr Aafia Siddiqui is in danger in the US jail.

Talking to media at Karachi airport after returning back from the US, she said the objective of her frequent visits to the US in not only to meet Aafia in jail, but they are the part of the struggle of Aafia Movement: securing the release of innocent Aafia from the US prison.

She said that the life of Aafia Siddiqui is in a grave danger, and she had left her in the protection of Allah, the Almighty.

She said there were more injuries on the body of Aafia than before.

She said that delay by the embassy in the scheduled visit, wastage of time and not providing facilities of agreed social visit as per the prison laws are the issues on which our Ministry of Foreign Affairs should take urgent action. She asked why the state and nation of Pakistan is being so disgraced.

She said that it was agreed that the meeting would be for eight hours, but they gave only three hours for it.

Fowzia said that the lawyer of Aafia Siddiqui has told that a very cruel attitude is being meted out to Dr Aafia Siddiqui in the prison. The lawyer has requested the government of Pakistan to take immediate steps for release of the daughter of the nation.

Dr Fowzia said that her meeting with Aafia was scheduled on December 2-3 and they had promised a social visit. However, on the first day of the scheduled meeting they pretended that the key of the cell of Dr Aafia was lost. Next day, they arranged the meeting but with a glass wall between them.

Fowzia said all this shows our weak diplomacy.

She said during their first meeting six months ago Aafia had asked whether Pakistan was occupied. However, the answer to this question came on our second meeting when they gave the lame excuse that they key was lost.

Dr Fowzia Siddiqui said that for the release of Aafia an active help of both Islamabad and ‘Rawalpindi’ is needed.

She thanked the supporters of the Aafia Movement who came to the airport on very cold night to receive him.

Earlier, a large number of Aafia Movement supporters gathered at the Karachi airport to receive Dr Fowzia Siddiqui.
