Four outstanding Ph.D. Students from the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry at the University of Karachi have been awarded a prestigious American Chemical Society (ACS) travel grant, allowing them to attend the ACS Qatar Chapter and RSC Regional MEA Conference 2024 in Qatar.

These four award-recipient students-Muhammad Ali Minhas, Amber Bano, Daim Asif Raja, and Sanya Khursheed-have already arrived in Qatar to attend the science conference.

A spokesperson for the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, announced on Monday that these four students were selected for their exceptional academic achievements and research contributions in the field of chemistry. This grant acknowledges their potential and provides them a unique opportunity to engage with global experts, showcase their research, and foster international collaborations.

The students are pursuing their Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. M. Imran Malik, who also serves as Chair of the ACS Pakistan Chapter and faculty advisor for the ACS student chapter at the University of Karachi.

The ACS Qatar Chapter and RSC Regional MEA Conference 2024, scheduled from November 3rd to November 5th in Doha, Qatar, is a premier international gathering of chemists, researchers, and industry leaders. This conference will feature cutting-edge presentations, workshops, and networking sessions, offering these students an unparalleled platform for knowledge exchange and professional growth.

Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, University of Karachi, congratulated the award recipients and their supervisor, Dr. Imran Malik. “This achievement is a testament to the students’ hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit. We are proud to see our students receive this recognition and look forward to their contributions to the scientific community,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, and Prof. Dr. Atta-ur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology, also extended their congratulations to the students for their achievement.
