Foreign Office Women’s Association in collaboration with National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM) organized a seminar to raise awareness regarding Autism, a neurodevelopment disorder.
In his opening remarks, Foreign Secretary Asad Majeed Khan said there is lack of understanding and awareness about Autism in many parts of the world including Pakistan.
He emphasized for greater awareness about this condition in order to build a more inclusive society where individuals with Autism can thrive and reach their full potential.
He said awareness includes educating ourselves and others about the unique needs and challenges faced by the individuals with Autism and promoting acceptance and inclusivity in our schools, workplaces and public spaces for them.
The Foreign Secretary pointed out that individuals with Autism may face various challenges in their daily lives such as difficulty in communication, social interaction and behavior. However, with proper support and resources they can lead productive lives.
He said we must continue to work together to break down the barriers that prevent people with this condition from fully participating in societies as well as promote the strengths and talents of these individuals.
On the occasion, experts in their presentations, highlighted the symptoms of Autism and rehabilitation interventions that needs to be made for the treatment of children with Autism.
