Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has issued an urgent plea for aid as floodwaters surge towards South Punjab, posing a grave threat to thousands. The rising levels of the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers have escalated the crisis, prompting Gilani to call for immediate action.

He appealed to charities, aid groups, and government bodies to provide prompt relief to those affected. He stressed the critical need for shelter, sustenance, and security for families in low-lying and vulnerable regions.

The chairman warned that the deluge is advancing towards South Punjab, jeopardizing countless homes and livelihoods. He urged inhabitants to heed official warnings and move to higher ground. “Prioritize your safety, collaborate with officials, and ensure prompt evacuation,” he advised.

Gilani emphasized the need for national unity, collaborative efforts, and social cohesion in the face of this calamity. He urged relief agencies to deploy resources to assist the impoverished and at-risk populations already grappling with the disaster’s impact.

He underscored the situation’s gravity, stating that preemptive rescue and relief efforts are crucial to minimizing casualties and property damage. “Thousands of families risk displacement due to these destructive floodwaters. Preventative measures, coupled with public collaboration, are essential to lessening the disaster’s magnitude,” he explained.

Gilani concluded by emphasizing the importance of compassion and joint determination, stating, “We must unite in support of those in need, ensuring that no one is left behind during this challenging period.”
