Flood, rehabilitation of victims conference held in Larkana

LARKANA: Former MPA Moazim Ali Abbasi has said that 70 to 75% flood water is still standing in Sindh and victims are draining out water on a self-help basis.

He was addressing a conference Flood and Rehabilitation of Victims held at Larkana Press Club under the auspices of Jeay Sindh Mahaz (JSM) Tuesday. Abbasi said 80% rainwater in Larkana was drained out by the affectees on their own through hired pumping machines but the role of the Sindh government was not visible anywhere. He said the entire irrigation system has collapsed and they also have miserably failed to discharge their legal and moral duties.

JSM Chairman Riaz Chandio claimed that it was not a natural calamity but handmade to sink Sindh to get foreign aid. He said Sindh has been looted ruthlessly and destroyed in the name of fake democracy and its people have been forced now for begging. He said had there been law and Justice Asif Zardari and others would have been in jails who have deprived Sindh of almost everything but there is no law for them.

He alleged that Sindh was sunk to get the international loans written off. He said Zardari and his henchmen have not so far visited the victims but international figures reached here in two pairs of clothes to see for themselves the sufferings and cries of the affected poor people.

He said Punjab has spent Rs300 billions on the irrigation system since 2008 due to which it remained safe and on the contrary Sindh spent Rs450 billions during the same period but without any improvement resulting in the sinking of Sindh which means the funds were digested and never utilized which need to be thoroughly probed.

He said according to an international organization that 160,00,000 women and children may die of gastro, malaria and other diseases in Sindh which is extremely worrisome. He said people in Sindh are dying of hunger, unemployment, poverty, diarrhea, malaria, dengue, snakebites and skin diseases but Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is enjoying his trip to Washington. He said if stagnant rain and flood water is not drained out quickly then the wheat crop cannot be sown and the entire province will face drought-like situation for which rulers of Sindh will be only held responsible.

Sardar Zafar Hussain Sangi said that Sindh stands destroyed at the moment because women are extremely worried about how to feed two meals to their children. He said we need to be awakened or else our coming generation will be deaf and dumb.
