ISLAMABAD:Caretaker Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar has reiterated the government’s dedication to modernizing its fiscal systems to align with the international best practices.

She was speaking at a meeting held here in Islamabad on Thursday regarding the automation agenda of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The Finance Minister stressed the need for leveraging technology to strengthen the nation’s revenue collection mechanisms and promote economic growth.

She asserted that automation is not just a choice but a necessity to ensure transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business in Pakistan.

Minister for IT and Telecom Dr Umar Saif, Chairman FBR, and officers from Revenue Division, IT Division, and FBR attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the FBR team and the team from Ministry of IT and Telecommunication apprised the Finance Minister about the progress on comprehensive plan of automation of FBR’s functions, broadly encompassing tax collection and revenue management.

The meeting concluded on the commitment from all the participatory bodies for making dedicated efforts towards this end to enhance fiscal governance, boost revenue collection, and stimulate economic growth of the country.
