ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik has said the federal government would provide all possible support for the agricultural revolution in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
He said the soil of GB has unique potential for agriculture, commodities and dry-fruits. He expressed these views during a meeting with the GB’s Chief Minister Gulbar Khan on Wednesday.
Dr Kausar Abdullah Malik said the federal government is still supplying 100% local wheat to Gilgit-Baltistan and local wheat will be supplied next year as well. On this occasion, Gulbar Khan thanked the federal government for the steps taken to solve the wheat problems on a priority basis.
The Federal Minister stressed that directives would be issued to the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) to form a team for further increasing the agricultural potential of Gilgit-Baltistan so that GB becomes self-sufficient in agriculture sector in the future.
He said the Gilgit-Baltistan government should prepare a proposal regarding the supply and delivery of wheat for its convenience, which will be earnestly considered.
