Fawad Chaudhry skips indictment in sedition case

ISLAMABAD:The indictment of former information minister and ex-PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry in the sedition case, which was due today, had to be put off until October 3 as the politician failed to turn up in the court.

Advocate Qamar Anayat, counsel for Fawad, appeared in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra in Islamabad on Wednesday and filed an application seeking exemption for his client from appearance in the court today.

He said since Fawad’s mother was sick; therefore, he had to dash to Lahore. Judge Sipra accepted Fawad’s plea, and urged him to ensure his presence on the next date of hearing.

Last month, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had accepted the unconditional apology of Fawad Chaudhry in the contempt case. Last year in August, the ECP had issued notices to Fawad Chaudhry, and others for allegedly using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja and the electoral body.
