Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the entire nation is united to meet the challenge posed by devastating floods across the country.
Chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said the people are once again laced with the spirit of 1965 war to bravely face this challenge.
Referring to the devastation caused by floods, the Prime Minister said it has destroyed hundreds of thousands of houses and killed about thirteen hundred people including hundreds of children. He said the calamity has damaged crops on a large scale besides sweeping away the livestock.
The Prime Minister however expressed satisfaction that we are once again writing a new chapter in our history to collectively address the current situation.
Shehbaz Sharif said the Defense and Martyrs Day is being observed with simplicity due to the flood situation.
Paying tributes to the sacrifices of martyrs and Ghazis, the Prime Minister recalled that on this day our valiant soldiers foiled with their blood the sordid designs of a four times bigger enemy. He said the sacrifices of our soldiers will not go in vain and that the whole nation including the coming generations will always remember their sacrifices.
