Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab stated today that efforts are being made to complete the projects for water supply and drainage at Karimabad Underpass, Lal Qila Park in Azizabad, and Soba Nagar Federal B Area as soon as possible.
He expressed full awareness of the citizens’ difficulties, which is why a strategy has been adopted to accelerate the pace of all ongoing development projects and complete them at the earliest.
He emphasized that every possible effort is being made to ensure that all construction work in Karachi’s various districts is completed to high standards, providing facilities for citizens. He made these remarks on Wednesday during a visit to the ongoing development projects in Central District, accompanied by Director General of Karachi Development Authority Shujaat Hussain, Mayor Karachi’s Special Representative for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the City Council Dil Muhammad, and other elected representatives and officials.
During his visit to the site of the underpass under construction in Karimabad, Mayor Wahab reviewed the progress made on the project in detail. The Project Director for the Karimabad Underpass briefed him on the construction works. The Mayor instructed that all obstacles in the construction process be removed so that the underpass can be completed as soon as possible, providing better transportation facilities for citizens in this important and densely populated area of Central District.
He noted that there was an unusual traffic pressure at the intersection where this underpass is being constructed by the Sindh government, which had led to frequent traffic jams. Hence, the decision to construct the underpass was made to create a signal-free route from Memon Foundation to Ziauddin Hospital, significantly reducing the travel time for traffic using this route. He described the Karimabad Underpass project as one of the most important projects initiated during the current term of the PPP government and expressed determination for its early completion.
During his visit to the Central District, Mayor Wahab also assessed the reconstruction project of Lal Qila Park in Azizabad and inspected various parts of the park. He stated that this project was initiated to provide the residents of Azizabad and surrounding areas with a better and standard park facility, which will include the construction of toilets and improvements in recreational facilities for citizens.
The park, spread over one and a half acres, will also feature indoor games, a gym, selfie points, and other modern facilities. He instructed the engineers and officials working on the park’s construction project to pay special attention to quality and to consider the needs of citizens, especially women and children, in providing recreational facilities.
Mayor Wahab mentioned that prior to this, Iqbal Park was constructed in Block 14 Gulberg Town, where approximately 5 acres were developed under the Karachi Mega Project, including 3 acres for cricket and football grounds, as well as a walking track and parking area, thus providing excellent recreational facilities for the local citizens.
Additional park projects in Central District will also be pursued. During his visit to Sobangar Federal B Area, he reviewed the ongoing work on the restoration project for the water supply and drainage system, stating that over 70% of the work on this project has been completed. New lines are being laid for sewage and water supply systems, with completion expected by December, which will alleviate water supply and drainage issues for the residents of Sobangar.
