Dr Aafia release: Govt suggested to include experts in proposed delegation to be sent to the US

Ex-Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has asked the government to include foreign policy experts, seasoned diplomats, senior ministers and other experts in the proposed delegation to be sent to the US for talks on the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui regarding a clemency petition filed for her release.

Talking to media outside the IHC premises after the hearing of Dr Aafia Siddiqui case, he welcomed the government for proposing a delegation for the US visit. He; however, suggested that federal ministers, foreign affairs experts and other influential personalities should be included to the proposed delegation to fight the case for Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s release in a befitting manner.

Earlier, the lawyer of Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, Advocate Imran Shafique said that the federal government has told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that it would send a four-member delegation to the United States of America to take efforts for seeking an early release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaque Khan heard the petition of Aafia Movement leader and noted neurophysician of the country Dr Fowzia Siddiqui regarding the case of her sister Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

Imran Shafique Advocate said that today the Attorney General of Pakistan appeared before the court and told that they have proposed to send a four-member delegation to the US including Dr Fowzia Siddiqui and a doctor proposed by her. From the government side Dr Anosha Rehman and Senator Talha would be members of the delegation. This delegation would visit the White House and also meet with the US administration and try to convince them to release Dr Aafia Siddiqui, as a clemency petition has already been filed with the US president.

He said that there is a visible progress in this case in every hearing.
