In an emotionally charged farewell ceremony, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) celebrated the remarkable tenure of its outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Saeed Quraishy.

The event, held at a packed Moeen Auditorium, was a tribute to Professor Quraishy’s transformative leadership that saw the establishment of pioneering healthcare institutions such as the Dow Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital.

Addressing the assembly, Professor Quraishy emphasized the power of teamwork in achieving what seemed impossible. He pointed out that the swift establishment of the Sindh Infectious Disease Hospital during the COVID-19 crisis was a testament to collective effort and effective collaboration. He expressed pride in leading an institution that belonged to everyone, highlighting the shared responsibility in its achievements.

His farewell drew notable figures including the Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, Tariq Rafi, and former Sindh Health Minister Dr Saad Khalid Niaz. Professor Quraishy’s leadership style, which focused on empowering his team, received high praise. Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Nazli Hussain commended his ability to guide from behind the scenes, while Principal Professor Iftikhar Ahmed lauded his visionary impact on DUHS.

Dr Saad Khalid Niaz reflected on how Professor Quraishy’s decision to return to Pakistan after training in the UK inspired many to serve their homeland. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a portrait, unveiled by Professor Quraishy, symbolizing his lasting influence on the institution. As he retires on April 29, 2025, his legacy of integrity and dedication remains a beacon for DUHS and its future leaders.
