Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Azerbaijan’s Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, exchanged invitations to upcoming international parliamentary conferences, signifying a strengthening of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Gilani invited Gafarova to the Interparliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) in Islamabad from November 10-12, and the Trilateral Speakers’ Conference with Turkiye from October 12-13. In return, Gafarova invited Gilani to a conference in Baku on October 29, commemorating the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s constitution.

Gilani commended Gafarova’s leadership within the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), acknowledging her work in promoting multilateral parliamentary diplomacy. He referenced his prior visit to Baku for an APA plenary session, which bolstered the Pakistan-Azerbaijan parliamentary relationship.

The Chairman emphasized the importance of the ISC, describing it as a new forum designed to unite global parliamentary leaders for open dialogue on critical issues such as peace, security, sustainable development, and collaborative approaches to global problems.

Gafarova stated that Pakistan’s presence at the Baku conference would solidify the enduring friendship and parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. The event will bring together parliamentarians and officials from around the world to discuss constitutional progress, parliamentary democracy, and inter-parliamentary collaboration.

Gilani confirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing legislative partnerships with Azerbaijan, characterizing the bilateral ties as grounded in shared history, cultural connections, and mutual esteem.
