Bangladesh has initiated detailed discussions for the potential procurement of JF-17 Thunder aircraft from Pakistan and has sought assistance for the maintenance of its ageing air force fleet, signalling a significant move towards deeper defence cooperation between the two nations.

According to a statement issued today, the formal expression of interest was conveyed by the Chief of Bangladesh Air Force, Hasan Mahmood Khan, during a high-level meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu.

During the engagement, the visiting dignitary praised the combat record of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and made a specific request for maintenance support for Bangladesh”s older aircraft. He also sought assistance with the integration of air defence radar systems to enhance his country”s air surveillance capabilities.

In response, Air Chief Marshal Sidhu briefed the Bangladeshi official on the PAF’s recent advancements and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Bangladesh Air Force. He offered a comprehensive training framework, including basic to advanced flying and specialised courses across various PAF institutions.

The PAF chief also assured an accelerated delivery of Super Mushshak trainer aircraft, which will be accompanied by a complete training package and a long-term support ecosystem.

As part of their official tour, the Bangladeshi delegation visited several key PAF facilities, including the National ISR and Integrated Air Operations Centre, the PAF Cyber Command, and the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park.
