DG Health Sindh inspects electricity supply to Chandka Hospital

Larkana: After media reports of prolonged electricity outage and dysfunctioning of all diesel generators of Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, in this sizzling hot weather, Director General, Health Services, Sindh, Dr. Muhammad Juman Bahooto, visited Civil Hospital, Nephrology Ward, Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital, Emergency Department and Children Hospital Blocks of the CMCH on Monday and inspected the out of order generators, inquired about electricity loadshedding and availability of other facilities.

While talking to media persons Dr. Bahooto said that the health minister took notice of the prolonged electricity load shedding and burnt generators of the CMCH which has caused tremendous hardships to the indoor and outdoor patients stopping the operations and disrupting other services. He said the Sindh government is trying to provide more and more medical facilities to the CMCH.

He said he is enquiring the relevant CMCH officers to improve the existing services, including provision of uninterrupted electric supply, replacement of outdated generators and other needs. He claimed hospitals are being provided modern facilities and Larkana Hospitals have the priority. DG further claimed better facilities are being provided to the poor patients in CMCH.

CMCH Medical Superintendent Dr. Abdul Sattar Shaikh said that after recent hailstorm electric poles had fallen down, electricity supply remained under crisis and CMCH was no exception. He said that CMCH has written several times to Sepco authorities to declare the Hospital loadshedding-free or all hospital blocks should be provided express feeder to ensure uninterrupted power supply but nothing has yet been done.

He said we have ten generators out of which two have burnt hence we have arranged two generators on a daily rent basis to ensure electric supply. Dr. Shaikh claimed that CMCH has nine road-worthy ambulances out of which three have been reserved for outside services.

Meanwhile, Sepco Executive Engineer Shah Muhammad Bajkani told media persons that CMCH has been put on another separate feeder and it is being supplied electricity. He said that CMCH authorities are wrongly blaming Sepco for their internal technical faults.

It must be mentioned here that recently a video became viral on social media in which it was seen that OPD doctors are examining poor patients while sitting under open sky due to scorching heat and unavailability of electricity.

Residents of Larkana have urged the authorities to take drastic actions to resolve the CMCH issues immediately including severe mismanagement and supply of medicines and modern equipment before upcoming local bodies elections which are approaching very fast.
