The fifth death anniversary of renowned Urdu poet, writer, actor and Radio drama artist Himayat Ali Shair was observed on Tuesday.
He was born in Aurangabad in British India on July 14, 1926. He worked for All India Radio and arrived in Pakistan in 1951 to begin his remarkable career with Radio Pakistan at Karachi.
Himayat Ali Shair’s collection of poetry includes ‘Mitti Ka Qarz,’ ‘Tashnagi Ka Safar,’ ‘Haroon Ki Awaz,’and ‘Harf Harf Roshni.’
His several songs, including ‘Na Chura Sakogay Daaman and Jaag Utha Hai Sara Watan’ went on to become instant classics.
Himayat Ali Shair received the Pride of Performance Award for his services for the promotion of art and was also given the Nigar Award for his contribution to films. He died on this day in 2019 in Toronto, Canada.
