The amount of 190 million pounds, returned to Pakistan by the UK’s National Crime Agency, will be utilized for the establishment of the Daanish University of Applied and Emerging Sciences, in Islamabad as per vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to a report by Radio Pakistan today, during a steering committee meeting in Islamabad, chaired by Prime Minister Sharif, it was revealed that the funds have already been transferred to the Federal Government’s account via the Supreme Court. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for facilitating this transfer.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the university’s mission to offer high-level research-based education to deserving students. He instructed that legal formalities for acquiring land and finalizing the university’s charter should be expedited.
The institution is set to become an internationally recognized technical and applied university. The Prime Minister directed that its infrastructure should be simple, utilizing red bricks to keep costs low, and the curriculum should align with global standards.
Additionally, the formation of a search committee for the Vice-Chancellor’s appointment and a Board of Trustees nomination committee was ordered. The Prime Minister will act as the patron of the university.
Land in Sector H-16 has been chosen for the university, which will operate under the Daanish Trust to ensure financial independence and limit government involvement.
Plans for Daanish schools in Shigar, Gilgit, Bagh, and underserved areas of Karachi and Azad Kashmir were also disclosed, with foundation stones to be laid soon.
